
Men's Golf Moves Up To Fourth Place At Pacific Invitational

Stockton, CA - The Saint Mary's men's golf team jumped one spot, moving up from fifth to fourth place at the Pacific Invitational, following a second round score of 276 (-8) on Tuesday morning. The Gaels have rounds of 280 and 276 for a 36-hole total of 556 (-12), at the par-71, 6,757-yard Brookside Country Club.
After shooting a round of 4-under par on Monday, the Gaels sat in fifth place after 18 holes. The Gaels moved ahead Pacific and BYU on Tuesday, following the eight-under second round, and moved up one spot t the Pacific Invitational. The Gaels entered the day seven shots behind first place Oregon and UC Davis, but dropped four shots to the Ducks, who lead the tournament with a 2-day total of 545 (-23). Oregon leads second place UC Davis by one shot and third place Fresno State, which passed the Gaels on Tuesday, by nine strokes.
Leading the charge for Saint Mary's on Tuesday was senior Robert McRae, who carded a 66 (-5) in the second round. Following his even par round of 71 on Monday, McRae is now in ninth place overall, and 10 shots behind individual leader Tyler Raber of UC Davis.
McRae's second round included began with a bogey on the first hole and a birdie on the second hole. After making a bogey on the sixth hole, McRae made a birdie on the ninth hole to make the turn at even par. McRae made five birdies on the back nine, which included a four-hole birdie streak to end the round.
The Gaels also got under-par rounds from Daniel Cone and Henrik Holm, as the two shot 69 (-2) and 70 (-1) respectively. Cone pared his first 11 holes, before making his first birdie on the par-3 12th. Following five more pars, Cone birdied the 18th hole to finish the day at 2-under par, and with his round of 70 (-1) on Monday, he is tied for 14th place overall at 3-under.
Holm started the day at even par, and had a very consistent round on Tuesday, which included two birdies and one bogey. Holm will enter the final round tied for 22nd place overall.
Eric Grimberg posted the fourth countable round for SMC, as he shot even par for the day. Grimberg shot an outward nine score of 36 (+1), before shooting a 35 (-1) on the back nine to shot even par. With a two-day total of 143 (+1), he is currently tied for 29th place.
Following a round of 68 (-3) on Monday, freshman Nick Sako shot 77 (+6) on Tuesday to drop to 3-over par for the tournament. Sako is currently in 39th place overall with a 36-hole total of 145.
The Gaels will complete play at the Pacific Invitational on Wednesday with the final 18 holes at the Brookside Country Club.
