
Louella Tomlinson Playing in Universiade Belgrade 2009

Moraga, CA – Women's Basketball player Louella Tomlinson played in her first game today in the 25th Universiade Belgrade in Serbia. Tomlinson is representing Australia in Universiade, which began today and ends on July 12.
In her first of three games in the preliminary round, Tomlinson had seven points, 13 rebounds and three blocks in 18 minutes of play, as Australia went on to beat Japan 112-69. Australia will face Slovakia on July 2 and Canada on July 3 to complete the preliminary round. The women will be back on the court on July 5 to start the second phase of play, with the finals taking place on July 11.
Besides the Olympics, Universiade is the biggest sport event held in a country. Students from 140 countries will compete in 15 sports and 208 disciplines at the Universiade Belgrade 2009. This Universiade marks the 25th anniversary and is hosted every other year in a selected city of a country member of the Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU).
The mission of the Universiade as an international institution is to spread values that are the core of academic sports. Universiade Belgrade 2009, in association with universities and university organization will leave a legacy personified in the belief that academism and sport are interconnected.
