MORAGA, Calif. — Gaels' pitcher Eryn McCoy has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of April 29 - May 5 after her impressive outing versus BYU over the weekend.
McCoy started in the circle during the second game of Saturday's doubleheader and powered her team to a victory over the conference-leading Cougars. In the game, the junior fired a complete game shutout while scattering seven hits, striking out one, allowing no walks, and throwing only 79 pitches.
It was the second complete game shutout of the season for McCoy who threw one earlier this season against Pacific.
A big key for the right-hander's success was her ability to suppress the WCC's hottest hitter, Rylee Jensen, who went 0-for-4 in the game but came into the weekend series with a batting average north of .400. Over the three-game series, McCoy pitched a total of 10 innings, allowed four earned runs, struck out three, walked just one, and allowed 13 hits.
Saint Mary's will play their final series of the season at home this week against San Diego. Saturday's doubleheader will also be Senior Day where the Gaels will honor their three departing seniors: Abbey Mariani, Bailey Lotz, and Dylan Linton.
