Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's women's tennis team was one match away from upsetting the No. 75-ranked UC Riverside Highlanders on Sunday when they fell by a score of 4-3. After earning the doubles point by winning two out of the three matches the Gaels were unable to capture the three singles matches needed for the win. Out of the four singles matches the Gaels dropped, two of them went to three sets.

In singles action, Saint Mary's freshman Aude Lambert earned her second victory of the season in impressive fashion. Dropping the first set to the Highlanders' Michelle Beyronneau 2-6, Lambert was able to battle back to capture the next two sets 6-3, 6-2. Also earning a singles victory for the Gaels was Nicole Hunstock. At the No. 5 position, Hunstock played in a close match as well but was able to beat Carolyn Mitchell in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4.

Saint Mary's dropped two close matches at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions. At the No. 4, Kristen Kummer fell to the Highlanders' Kim Tran in a hard fought match, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. The Gaels' Anne-Joy de Graan also played hard but fell to Riverside's Catrisha Cabanilla in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

In doubles action, Saint Mary's was able to capture the point by winning the No.1 and No. 3 matches. At the No. 1 doubles, the Saint Mary's duo of Lambert and Hunstock beat Casey Cross and Beyronneau by a score of 8-5. The Gaels' pair of Kate Harden and Kummer was able to take care of Tran and Cabanilla by a score of 8-4.

Saint Mary's (1-5) returns to action on Saturday, February 21 when they face UC Davis at Noon at the Korth Tennis Complex.
