Women's Rowing Competes at Head of the American

Sacramento, CA -- The Saint Mary's women's program had a strong day at the Head of the American, at Lake Natoma in Sacramento, CA, on Saturday. The Gaels had five boats competing in four events, highlighted by the Collegiate-4 A boat that finished ahead of the Cal-A boat, the USC B, Humboldt State A, Mils College, Sonoma State A, and Sonoma State B boats.
Kicking of the day for the Gaels was the Collegiate Novice-8 boat, which finished ninth with a time of 22:33, finishing ahead of opponents: Humboldt B, Sonoma State, Pacific B, and Pacific A. The lineup for the Novice-8 boat was coxswain Lisa Wickhem, 8 Brittany Rozzanno, 7 Jillian Parlee, 6 Melissa Queen, 5 Elaina Jones, 4 Margaret Garbo, 3 Fabrizia Mauro, 2 Caitlin Staat, and 1 Nicollete Pierantoni.
The Women's Collegiate-8 followed, placing 10th in a competitive field, the Gaels finished with a time of 19:02, ahead of Sonoma State, Mills College, Humboldt A, Humboldt B, and Humboldt C. The lineup for the collegiate-8 boat was: coxswain Molly Chow, 8 Laura Kocourek, 7 Miranda Ripoli, 6 Dana Cook, 5 Jordan Bonadio, 4 Virginia Gilchrist, 3 Taylor Balian, 2 Jennifer Trowers, 1 Savina Brown.
SMC had two boats in the women's collegiate fours competition. The Saint Mary's A boat highlighted the event, finishing ahead of Cal A, USC B, Humboldt State A, Mills College, Sonoma State A, and Sonoma State B, and clocking in with a time of 20:32. The lineup for the A-boat was coxswain Marrah Galvin, 4 Laura Kocourek, 3 Jordan Bonadio, 2 Dana Cook, 1 Miranda Ripoli.
The Saint Mary's B-Boat also had an impressive performance, finishing with a time of 22:04, ahead of Humboldt State A, Mills College, Sonoma State A, and Sonoma State B. The lineup for the B boat was coxswain Molly Chow, 4 Virginia Gilchrist, 3 Taylor Balian, 2 Jennifer Trowers, 1 Savina Brown.
Rounding out the day was the Mixed Collegiate Eights. Saint Mary's came in fourth with a time of 25:40 against Pacific A, Pacific B and Cal Maritime mixed eights. The lineup for the mixed eights boat was coxswain Lisa Wickhem, 8 Brittany Rozzano, 7 Nicolette Pierantoni, 6 Melissa Queen, 5 Elaina Jones, 4 Margaret Garbo, 3 Fabrizia Mauro, 2 Catilin Staat, 1 Ann Boyd.
Saint Mary's returns to the water on Sunday, November 1, when the Varsity boat participates in the Newport Fall Rowing Festival. The novices will be back in the water at the Head of the Lagoon in mid November.
