Moraga, CA – The Saint Mary's softball team struggled offensively Saturday afternoon, dropping their double-header against UC Davis, 0-1 and 0-11. The Gaels did not cross home plate in either competition, while finishing the day with 10 hits. UC Davis racked up 12 runs in two games of action, adding 18 hits and 12 RBI.
Junior Kat Delpit was the lone Gael to find a rhythm at the plate, notching four hits on five at bats. The only other players to record multiple hits on the day were freshmen Kayla Gonzales and Michelle Mounts with two singles apiece. Rounding out the offensive action was Amelia McIntosh and Rebecca Sabatini each adding one hit.
In the first game against the Aggies freshman Brittany Linton put up impressive numbers in the circle for the Gaels, pitching the complete game while giving up only one run. Unfortunately for Linton she did not receive any help from her teammates on offense, as the one run was enough to seal the win for UC Davis, 1-0.
The second game was a much different story from the circle, with three different Gael pitchers making an appearance. Kimberly Green earned the start for Saint Mary's, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing three hits and one run. Marlena Green and Maryanne Cronin each made appearances late in the game, as the Aggie batters began to heat-up, scoring 10 runs in the final inning of action. Saint Mary's fell to 1-8 on the season with the two losses, while UC Davis improves to 7-3.
Saint Mary's returns to action against Stanford on Tuesday, February 24 in a night game beginning at 6:00 PM in Stanford, CA.
