Hank Stern joined the Saint Mary's College athletics staff in March, 2014 as assistant athletic director for marketing.
As a member of the department's external affairs unit, Stern oversees initiatives in athletics marketing, promotions, ticket sales, community outreach, student spirit groups and campus engagement. He also serves as the primary point of contact for SMC's athletic corporate partnership program.
A native of Los Angeles, Stern spent 16 of the last 17 years in a variety of marketing and business operations capacities for the Arena Football League's San Jose SaberCats. The last four years, he served as the organization's director of business operations and managed the re-launch of the franchise after the AFL took a two-year hiatus.
While with the SaberCats, Stern oversaw all aspects of the franchise's marketing, corporate sales, ticket sales, game operations, advertising and broadcasting initiatives.
In 2010, he served as a general sales manager with ISP Sports (now IMG College) property at the University of California. While at ISP, he managed a sales staff that was responsible for generating sponsorship, marketing and media revenue and conducting partnership fulfillment.
A 1985 graduate of Cal, Stern spent the first four years of his professional career working in accounting, insurance and financial services before entering sports marketing as a ticket operations manager with the Oakland Athletics. He spent six years with the A's and was responsible for all aspects of ticket operations, sales and customers service.
Stern and his wife, Kim, are longtime residents of Lafayette, Calif. and they have three children: Taylor, Ellie and Robbie.
