MORAGA, Calif. – Earlier this year, the Saint Mary's women's soccer team has added a pair of standouts in Anyssa Dominguez and Leah Emerson, who will be joining the Gaels as freshmen for the upcoming 2015 season.
Travis Clarke. "They both have a lot of high level club experience that will help them transition into the West Coast Conference."
Anyssa Dominguez is finishing her senior year at Tulare Western HS in Tulare. She burst onto the scene as a freshman, being named Fresno Bee Second-Team, Tulare Advanced Register Second-Team and Co-Offensive Player of the Year. She broke the EYL scoring record with 32 goals.
In her sophomore year, Dominguez stepped up earning First-Team honors and Offensive Player of the Year, breaking her previous record with 38 goals.
Dominguez also played for the California Odyssey U17 team and earned a 2012 US Soccer National Championship. She was also on the Principal's Honor Roll every semester. Dominguez ended her playing career for the Mustang Mavericks ECNL.
Dominguez chose Saint Mary's after visiting the school and "falling in love with the atmosphere, the people and the campus," said Dominguez. "I am most excited to become a Gael because of the countless memories I will make with my team and the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love."
Leah Emerson hails from Danville and comes to the Gaels from Monte Vista HS. She has won numerous awards and is a four-year scholar athlete. Emerson plays the goalie position and has won big games throughout her career.
Monte Vista won the 2014 NCS Division I championship and advanced to the finals in 2013 and 2015. Her soccer team was a two-time EBAL Champion.
Her club team is the Mustang Mavericks since 2005. Emerson holds several championships including four-time GSSL Gold championships, three time Mustang Winter Turf Championships and Mustang Stampede Champions in 2010.
Saint Mary's has not officially released its 2015 schedule, but the season opener is most likely slated for August 21st vs. UC Santa Barbara at Saint Mary's Stadium.
