Capitol Cross Challenge Final Results

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Saint Mary's men's and women's cross country teams continued to look strong in their third meet of the season on Saturday: the Capitol Cross Challenge. The men took sixth-place while the women finished eighth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Men (8K): Finished sixth out of 26 teams overall and fifth out of 12 Division I schools.
Junior
Nolan Dozier led the Gaels as he has done for SMC in every meet this season. His 11th-place finish came with a time of 24:40.4. Junior
Moses Bojorquez came in second for Saint Mary's (20th-place 24:55.2), with freshman
Stuart Kendall in third (69th 25:37.7). Senior
Mason Labadie (77th 25:48.6) and freshman
Tommy Bell (78th 25:49.6) finished just one second apart as the final two SMC qualifiers.

Women (6K): The women's cross country team placed eighth out of 26 schools and sixth in the Division I field. Junior
Abby Bolt led the pack once again. Bolt came in 27th-place with a time of 21:59.4. In second for the Gaels was freshman
Kaela Dishion (44th, 22:21.7), then sophomore
Abigayle Mitchell (54th, 22:35.3) came in third while freshman
Ellen Burbank (59th 22:40.3) and junior
Katie Watson (106th, 23:17.6) came in fourth and fifth respectively.

QUOTABLE
"Both teams ran well today," said head coach
Marty Kinsey. "They both beat a lot of Division I teams in the region which is really important. I'm very happy with the results from our freshman on both sides who have shown that they have the ability to step up in these races."

UP NEXT
In two weeks, Saint Mary's cross country will head to the Bronco Invitational on October 13 for their final tune-up before the West Coast Conference Championship on the 27th.
