HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. – Lindsey Calvin and
Lindsey Knudsen's run at the USA Collegiate Volleyball Beach Championships ended on Friday as they fell in the Round of 16 to University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The seniors played two close sets against Keene and Buckland from UAB, including a strong comeback in set one when they originally trailed 18-8. The Blazers went on to take set one 21-18 followed by a 21-14 win in set two to advance to the next round. Keene and Buckland  played every match except one in the number one spot this season for the Blazers and went 12-7 in that position.
Knudsen and Calvin swept on the first day of competition and while they lost on Friday, they still ended up among the top 16 beach pairs in the nation.
"The Lindseys fought valiantly but came up just short against a very tough UAB team," said head coach
Gary Hodge. "They handled the loss with grace, congratulating their opponent on a great game. Sitting in the box after the match they only talked about how grateful they were for the opportunity to represent Saint Mary's for four years. I have never been more proud to be someone's coach. "
