SB | Garnett Adds Six More to Incoming Freshman Class

After previously signing three recruits during the winter, Sonja Garnett has added six more incoming freshmen to her 2020 roster.

MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's softball team has added six new recruits in preparation for the 2020 season. The Gaels will look to build off last season when they won more conference games than the previous two years combined under first year head coach Sonja Garnett

"We are excited to add these young women to our program," said Garnett. "This group is diverse in talent and will complete our team nicely. They are good students, people, and athletes and we can't wait to get them on the field."

REYNA HEREDIA
Position: Utility
Hometown: Hercules, Calif. 
Height: 5'4"


Heredia made TCAL Second Team All-League as a freshman followed by First Team All-League and Team MVP as a sophomore. During her junior year, she achieved First Team All-League and Team MVP along with being named League MVP. As a senior, she was named First Team All-League and Team MVP for the third time. Heredia was also chosen for League MVP runner up in the same year.

JORDYN OLIVER
Position: Utility
Hometown: Roseville, Calif.
Height: 5'2"


Oliver played four years of varsity softball at Oakmont High. She achieved Capital Valley Conference Scholar Athlete status and was named an All-American of the All-Academic Games in the Colorado Sparkler two years in a row. Oliver also received Varsity Offensive MVP in 2017 and in the following year was named an Army National Female Scholar Athlete. As a senior, she made the Foothill Valley All-League, the All-City Team and the Optimist Team. In addition, Oliver was a League Scholar Athlete in 2019 and received the Viking Award in the same year. 

GABRIELLE PEREZ
Position: Catcher
Hometown: Hayward, Calif.
Height: 5'2"


Perez made Second Team All-League in 2016-17 and received Offensive MVP at her high school. The following year, she made First Team All-League and achieved Offensive MVP for the second year in a row. The catcher was named First Team All-League in 2018 and 2019 where she was also a part of the Livermore Stampede All-Tournament Team in both years. In her senior season, Perez was named Team MVP. 

KAYLA SCOTT
Position: Right Handed Pitcher
Hometown: Windsor, Calif.
Height: 5'9"


Scott was a four-year scholar athlete and achieved Team MVP of her high school all four years. She was named Second Team All-League as a freshman and sophomore followed by First Team All-League in 2018. Scott earned First Team All-League as a senior and was also named League MVP in the same year. She also played varsity tennis and received the Scholar Student Award and Female Athlete of the Year for her high school.  

BRY WATERS
Position: Outfielder
Hometown: Martinez, Calif.
Height: 5'7"


Waters earned three varsity letters during her high school career and helped her team in winning the North Coast Section Championship in 2016. She placed first with her team in the Reno Tournament Championship while she was also named All-Tournament Player in the Livermore Stampede. She also received First Team All-League of Diablo Athletic League two years in a row and was named Female Athlete of the Year for 2018-19. 

MADDIE GALLAGHER
Position: Utility
Hometown: San Martin, Calif. 
Height: 5'7"


Gallagher comes to Saint Mary's after an impressive junior college stint at San Jose City College. She was named the Northern California Player of the Year in 2019 thanks to her unbelievable performance at the plate. Gallagher batted .568, knocked 15 home runs and 14 doubles in only 44 games, and struck out all of three times during the season. In 15 conference games, she batted .729 and drove in 21 runs. In addition to her big bat, she also made 20 starts in the circle and posted a 3.11 ERA in 119.1 innings pitched. Prior to SJCC, Maddie was a four-year varsity starter at Live Oak High School.
