MORAGA, Calif. – Head coach Marty Kinsey has announced the largest recruiting class in the history of Saint Mary's cross country and track & field. The pool of 17 incoming student-athletes includes highly-talented individuals including several who placed in the top-10 in their respective CIF State meets.
 
"This is the largest combined recruiting class to-date for the Gaels," said Kinsey. "It also happens to be the most talented for both academics and athletics we have ever brought in."
 
One example on the women's side is Rayna Stanziano who excelled both in track and cross country. Hailing locally from Concord, she finished in third at the CIF State cross country meet with a time of 17:43. Furthermore, she finished third at the State track meet, posting a 2:10 in the 800. She was a two-time bronze-medalist in this event. From Foothill Technology High School, Lauren Kearney joins the Gaels after finishing eighth at the CIF State cross country meet with a time of 18:17. Another strong newcomer will be Briseida Garcia-Meza whose 2:12 in the 800 at the State meet was good for a seventh-place finish.
 
On the men's side, Sebastian Anderssen posted strong times at Chabot College including a 5k mark of 15:39 and a 4:13 in the 1500 during the track season. Furthermore, Lucas Chung will head to Saint Mary's with impressive times track times in the 1600 (4:17) and 3200 (9:27). Also, both Isaiah Jimenez (Christian Brothers) and Xavier Gonzalez (Atascadero High) had strong times in the 3200, posting respective times of 9:32 and 9:34. 
 
"This recruiting cycle has been very important," said Kinsey. "The WCC continues to improve on all fronts and we are happy to be contributing to this. I'm proud of the program that has been built and this incoming class will be a huge boost for the future."
