MORAGA, Calif. — Gaels' rowing head coach Anna Pytlak announced today the signing of Katie Ferbet for the 2021 fall season. Ferbet is an accomplished rower from St. Louis who will be studying communications at Saint Mary's.
"I've been following Katie's athletic development for quite some time and I'm thrilled that she will be a part of our team next fall," said Pytlak of her new recruit. "She is a perfect fit for our program, she works hard, has a great attitude and she is a fierce competitor."
Ferbet helped her club take first place at the Midwest Rowing Championships in both 2018 and 2019 and has placed highly at other events including the US Rowing Youth Nationals twice and Head of the Hooch.
As a student, Ferbet was on her high school's honor roll all four years and was a member of the science honors society.
"One of the biggest things that drew me to rowing in college was the number of people I could meet through it and the opportunity to get as fast as I can and compete against other amazing schools," said Ferbet. "Growing up, I've always played sports. It's something that has always been a part of my life and something that brings me so much joy so I knew I wanted to continue it in college."
Ferbet says she chose Saint Mary's based on the high recommendations of others during her recruitment process and was intrigued by the academics, specifically January Term. The high school senior will join her sister, Emily, who is currently a junior on the varsity team.
