6/11/2020 1:59:00 PM | Women's Rowing
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Soon, oars will be back in the water and rowers from across the country and Saint Mary's will be back getting ready for fall competitions. In the meantime, the West Coast Conference has announced its annual All-Academic team for women's rowing, and the Gaels are strongly represented with a total of 11 rowers earning recognition. Leading the way from SMC are Jennifer Faulkner and Caroline Mac Mahon, who both earned spots on the first team.
In order to qualify for All-Academic WCC honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and hold at least a sophomore standing.
Both Faulkner and Mac Mahon were honored in late-April for being named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for 2019-20, and for good reason. They both finished in the top of the entire athletics department at Saint Mary's, both carrying GPAs north of 3.90 (Faulkner right at 3.90, Mac Mahon at 3.96). These two helped lead the Gaels in the water over the last four years, and graduate Saint Mary's with degrees in Politics and Integral Liberal Arts – French, respectively.
An impressive nine other Gaels were honored by the conference in the honorable mention category of the All-Academic team. Those nine were: Katie Baxter (3.41, JCLMSTE), Elizabeth Blue (3.30, Business Administration), Brooklyn Cassel (3.40, Business Administration), Sydney Low (3.55, Kinesiology-Exercise Science), Katie Pecoraro (3.33, JCL-Teachers for Tomorrow), Emily Pelster (3.38, Anthropology:Archaeology), Emily Roque-Reinosa (3.36, Allied Health Science), Emily Sprigings (3.85, Kinesiology:Health and Human Performance), and Lina Rak (3.74, Business Administration).
