GOLF | Bressum Advances to Match Play at British Amateur Championship

SOUTHPORT, England — Saint Mary's Junior, Kristian Bressum, has advanced to the match play stage in the Amateur Championship hosted by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of Saint Andrews at Hillside in England. Bressum is coming off an electric season as a Gael and brings his talent across the pond in the global championship arena. Finishing T-21 in the stroke play qualifying with remarkable rounds of 70-69, Bressum is poised for great success in match play tomorrow. This incredible accomplishment comes after two solid seasons with the Gaels and provides him with great momentum as he heads into the championship portion of this most prestigious amateur tournament.
Hillside is situated in Southport as part of a fine stretch of coastal links on 'England's Golf Coast'. The venue has hosted many amateur and professional tournaments in its illustrious history, including the 2022 Cazoo Classic on the DP World Tour. The first British Amateur Championship was held in 1885 and since then, some of golf's greatest names have triumphed, including Bobby Jones, Sergio Garcia and José María Olazábal.
Contested by 288 players over stroke play and then match play, the winner secures exemptions into The Open and the US Open, and by tradition, an invitation to play in the Masters Tournament. Almost 40 different countries are represented with the top 64 players and ties progressing to the match play stages.
