MORAGA, Calif. — Over the past two seasons, Saint Mary's Basketball excellence has been synonymous with
Augustas Marciulionis. The Lithuanian point guard led the Gaels in assists last season, and has been Saint Mary's leading scorer and assist man this season. This week, Marciulionis led the Gaels to a come-from-behind effort against Boise State, erasing a 13 point first half deficit against the Broncos before ultimately falling by two points in overtime. As such, Marciulionis has been named the Shamrock Office Solutions Student-Athlete of the Week. Marciulionis is the third Gaels Men's Basketball player to earn this honor this season. This is the fourth time that Augustas has earned this honor, doing so once as a true freshman and twice last season.
The Gaels leading scorer and distributor on the season, Marciulionis demonstrated both of those abilities against Boise State on Saturday night, with a team-high 17 points and 6 assists. After three first half turnovers, the Vilnius, Lithuania native had 0 turnovers in the second half and overtime combined, helping the Gaels turn a 13 point deficit into a lead as large as five, ultimately falling by two in OT. Marciulionis is one of just three players in the WCC to rank in the top-10 in the conference in scoring and assists.
Marciulionis and the Gaels will be back at home on Thursday and Sunday this week, taking on Merrimack and Utah State respectively.
