MORAGA, Calif. — Following a stellar performance at the WCC Tournament, Mason Forbes has been named the Saint Mary's Shamrock Office Solutions Student Athlete of the Week. This is the first time that Mason has earned this honor. He joins his teammates Aidan Mahany, Alex Ducas and Augustas Marciulionis as this year's previous winners.
Starting at the four since February 20, Mason Forbes put together a dominant performance for the Gaels in Las Vegas. In the Gaels semifinal victory over Santa Clara, the Folsom native dropped 18 points, one shy of his season high, while holding Santa Clara four man Johnny O'Neil to just three points on 1-6 shooting. Mason shot 8-9 from the field and ripped down three offensive boards. He followed that up with a perfect 3-3 shooting clip against Gonzaga in the conference title game, pulling in four offensive rebounds. For the tournament, Mason went 11-12 from the field, and narrowly missed being named to the WCC All-Tournament team. For the season, Mason has shot an incredible 70.6% from the field.
Mason and the Gaels will head to Spokane for the first round of the NCAA Tournament, scheduled for a 7:05 PM matchup with Grand Canyon on Friday, March 22.
