MORAGA, Calif. - As the rowing season is about to start, the West Coast Conference announced its annual Preseason All-WCC team and coaches poll. The Gaels had two student-athletes named to the preseason All-WCC team, and were picked to finish fifth in the conference.
Freshman Katelyn Robertson and, for the second time in her career, Hathaway Scarpine represent the Gaels on the All-WCC Preseason team. This is the fourth consecutive season where two Saint Mary's rowers were included on the All-WCC team, with Scarpine and Olivia Watson being selected in 2023, Katrina Heffernan and Emily Ferbet in 2022, and Emily Sprigings and Ferbet in 2021.
Gonzaga has been selected to finish first in the WCC preseason poll. This is the third year in a row that the Bulldogs were picked to finish first in the WCC, after winning its 21st overall WCC Rowing Championships and eighth consecutive conference title. Each team is represented by multiple rowers on the All-WCC Preseason team with the Zags leading with four. The Bulldogs have been selected to finish first or second every year since 2012,
According to Head Coach Brian Ebke, "Katelyn and Hathaway have had a productive year of training and we're eager to see them out on the race course soon! They've both been consistent hard workers and the results of their hard work have shown up on the erg and on the water in our intra-team competitions. Hathaway has been a strong leader for our team the last two years, and Katelyn is in the first year of her college rowing career so we're excited for a bright future ahead of her. We're very proud of both Hathaway and Katelyn and appreciate the work they've done to have a positive impact on our team!"
