

TRK | Men Dominate in the 800 Meter, Scoring Points for the Gaels

DAVIS, Calif. - The Men's Track and Field team competed in UC Davis and took part in the 800 meters and the 5000 meters with multiple Gaels securing points for Saint Mary's.
In the top ten final for the 800 meters, the men took up seven spots. Freshman Spencer Wirshing was the first Gael to finish, securing second overall in this event with a time of 1:52.68, 1.05 seconds behind first place, Santa Clara's Senior, Alex Scales. One spot behind Wirshing, was Sophomore Jason Habash with a new PR of 1:53.41.
The Gaels then managed to take up spots fifth through ninth place. The difference between these five slots was only 0.85 of a second. Sophomore Eric Martinez took fifth with a time of 1:56.02, sophomore Noah Pagaran secured sixth, freshman Alexandro Alvarez hitting a new PR with a time of 1:56.75 in seventh, junior Blaine Reynolds in eighth, and junior Curtis Volf taking up ninth with a PR of 1:56.87.
Cayden Hein was the first SMC runner to finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:55.26, giving Saint Mary's four points in fifth place. Behind him was junior Francisco Felix, giving the team two points and a sixth place finish with a time of 14:59.01.
The Saint Mary's track and field team will be back in action next weekend, March 16th, competing at the Hornet Invite in Sacramento.
