HAYWARD, Calif. - The Saint Mary's Track and Field team had a very successful day as multiple Gaels for both the men and women's team secured first place.
The Men's Team:
Gavin Voskamp took first place in both events he competed in, starting off the shot put event at 13.92 meters and 43.46 meters in discus throw.
The Gaels continued to dominate in the 800 meteres with
Noah Pagaran earning first place coming in with a time of 1:55.45. The Freshman, Diego Uridalaes, finished first in his heat, ninth overall with a time of 2:02.70.
SMC dominated in the 5000 meters taking up three out of the top ten slots.
Luke Bland was the first Gael to finish in fourth place with a time of 15:18.75.
Troy Coulston secured sixth place with a time of 15:29.53 and only 0.67 seconds behind him taking seventh was
Aidan Donovan.
The Women's Team:
The Gaels dominated and secured five of eight slots to earn points for the team in the 800 meters with
Rayna Stanziano winning the overall event with a time of 2:07.03.
Luz Mercado took second place overall in this event finishing 0.50 seconds behind Stanziano and placing third all time at SMC and hitting a new PR.
Molly Dreher, hitting a new PR, secured third place with a time of 2:10.76 finishing fifth all time for Saint Mary's. Junior
Kaitlin Laner won her heat and placed seventh overall with a time of 2:24.77.
SMC continued to dominate in the 1500 meters as
Ana Mercado secured the overall win, finishing with a time of 4:41.16. Not far behind her was the Freshman
Luna Mole taking up second place with a time of 4:42.33 and a new PR.
Lauren Buckley also PRed in this event with a time of 5:05.66.
Saint Mary's extended their control on today's match with
Kaylee Barnes winning the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:15.85.
Eleanor Jepsen secured second place 1.87 seconds behind Barnes and
Michaela Martin took third place with a time of 18:07.36.
The Gaels secured first in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:05.68. The relay team consisted of
Piper Kunesh,
Hailey Vines, Alexander Davis, and
Jaden DeSouza.
Jaden DeSouza took first place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.94 and Kunesh followed with her new best time of 1:08.47.
Vines competed in the 400 meters, winning her heat and PRing with a time of 1:02.83.
Kitty Tang earned her best time in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.43.
Regina Molitoris PRed in the shot put event with 10.68 meters and
Jane Carney PRed in 3000 meter Steeplechase with a time of 12:37.15.
After today's event, Women's Head Coach
Marty Kinsey stated, "Today was another great competition for the Gaels. We were able to travel our entire team to a local meet, win several heats and overall races. Probably the highlight of the day was
Rayna Stanziano, winning 800 and
Luz Mercado coming in second in what could be NCAA qualifying times. We still have four weeks left to improve those further. This could be the first year we get multiple women to the NCAA preliminary championships.
