BVB | Gaels Spoil Santa Clara’s Senior Day with Come-From-Behind Victory

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Down two sets to none, Saint Mary's (14-14) showed true grit and fortitude, winning the final three points to down the Santa Clara Broncos (9-17) on their senior day. The win marks the Gaels first on the road this season, as they moved back to 0.500 with two games to go in the regular season.
Playing with an emotional charge, the first two points went the way of the Broncos in straight sets for the one and five pairs. At the threes, AJ Slojkowski and Sedona Sherman started the turnaround for the Gaels, bouncing back from a 21-15 loss in the second set to win the decisive third 15-11 to put SMC on the board. Hawley Harrer and Sadie Shipman continued their hot play at the twos, with a straight set victory, meaning the it would come down to the four pairing of Karmin Brown and Angie Bour to try and snatch up the W for the Gaels. Brown and Bour dropped a tight first set 22-0, but responded to win set two 21-17. With momentum firmly in hand, the Gael fours took control of the decisive third set from the get go, winning it 15-10 to secure the victory for Saint Mary's.
The Gaels will play their final two matches of the regular season on Saturday in Stockton, taking on Pacific and San Francisco.
