
Tom Nichols Garners WCC Player of the Week Honors

Moraga, CA (April 17) - Senior outfielder Tom Nichols (Modesto, CA) was named the Rawlings/West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday, April 17, 2000. Nichols helped lead the Gaels to two victories over Santa Clara, batting .533 with nine RBI and two home runs in the three game series.
In the opening game of the series, Nichols went 4-for-6 with two home runs and five RBI. The four hit performance was the first four-hit game of his career. That effort, coupled with a 4-for-9 and four RBI day in Saturday's doubleheader, helped improve his batting average by 22 points to .366, sixth overall in the WCC. Nichols is batting .441 (30-68) in conference games.
With hits in all three games of the series, Nichols improved his hitting streak to 12 games. The double figure hit streak is the second longest for Saint Mary's this season. In 31 games he has hit safely 25 times, including 11 multiple hit games Nichols will take his 12-game hit streak into a three game series against San Francisco starting Friday, April 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Saint Mary's Louis Guisto Field. The series will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon.
