Men's Tennis Falls to San Francisco, 6-1

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team (1-2) lost its home opener to the San Francisco Dons, 6-1 on Monday afternoon. After Saint Mary's won the doubles point to start the match, USF swept the singles matches.

The lone Saint Mary's point came when the Gaels won two of three matches in the doubles. Frank Schmitt and Thomas Burgemeister defeated Joakim Lien and Jorgen Arnsen at number-one 8-4. Aurturo Planell and J.J. Whitlinger defeated Axel Elvik and Mason Fuller, 9-7, at the number-two doubles spot to earn the doubles point.

San Francisco swept the six singles matches to secure the win on a cold day in Moraga. The only singles match to go to three games was between Filip Sarovic of SMC and Mason Fuller of USF. Fuller won the match 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.

Saint Mary's will return to action on Sunday, February 2 when it travels to California to face the Golden Bears a 10:00 a.m.
