
Men's Basketball Falls to Fresno State in Final Seconds, 67-65

Fresno, CA - Fresno State's Damon Jackson hit the final shot of the game with .5 seconds remaining on the clock to lift the Bulldogs to a 67-65 victory over the Saint Mary's men's basketball team to capture the McCaffery Classic championship. The game played in front of 9,450 fans in Selland Arena on Saturday night.
Tyler Herr and Chase Poole were named to the McCaffery Classic All-Tournament Team. Tyler Herr was on fire for the Gaels as he netted a career-high 24 points. En route to his career night, Herr connected on 7-of-10 shots from the field while hitting 6-of-8 attempts from three-point range. His fifth three of the game gave the Gaels their first lead of the game, 44-43, with 12:40 remaining.
In tonight's game against the Bulldogs, Poole added 10 points and had a game-high nine rebounds to average 12 points and 8.5 rebounds in the two games. Frederic Adjiwanou had a breakout game as he scored a career-high 14 points while shooting 5-of-7 from the floor.
Fresno State jumped out to a 14-2 advantage six minutes into the game. The Gaels would fight back into the game and cut the Bulldogs lead to three points (28-25) with 1:54 remaining in the first half. A Damon Jackson basket with four second left on the clock gave Fresno State a five-point lead at the intermission.
Fresno State would extend its lead to eight points twice in the second half, and had a 38-30 lead with 17:35 on the clock. SMC would chip away as the Bulldog advantage before finally taking its lead on Herr's three. With the crowd behind them, Fresno State would regain its eight-point advantage (61-53) with 5:03 left to play.
Once again a Tyler Herr three would give Saint Mary's a one-point lead, this time 62-61 with 2:51 left to play. Jonathan Wood's jumper game FS a 64-63 lead and a Anthony Woodards free throw tied the game. The Bulldogs made two free throws to open a two-point advantage and Adjiwanou's lay in tied the score at 65-65 with 34 second left, setting up Jackson's game-winner.
Saint Mary's will return to action when it hosts San Jose State on Wednesday, December 4. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7:05 PM in McKeon Pavilion.
