Portland, OR - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team (1-4) was defeated by the University of Portland (5-2), 7-0, in a non-conference match at Eastmoreland Racquet Club on Tuesday, February 6.
The Gaels Frank Schmitt lost a close one to 7-6, 7-5 at the number one to Portland's Perrott. At the number two, Arturo Planell lost 6-4, 6-2. Thomas Burgemeister then lost his match at the number three, being downed 6-2, 6-3. Filip Sarovic fell at the number four by a score of 6-0, 6-4. J.J. Whitlinger and Josh Farley both fell at the number five and six spot by a final of 6-2, 6-4 and 3-6, 6-3 (10-7), respectively.
SMC wasn't able to win one of their doubles matches as Schmitt and Burgemeister fell 8-3 at the number one. Planell and Whitlinger were ousted at the number two, 8-3. And Sarovic and Philip Laubsher fell 8-4 in the final doubles match.
The Gaels will continue action Thursday, February 7, at the University of Portland against Portland State and Eastern Washington.
