Santa Clara, CA - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team was defeated by Santa Clara 6-1 in West Coast Conference action from Saturday afternoon at the SCU Tennis Center.
Saint Mary's and Santa Clara opened the afternoon with doubles, SCU's the nationally-ranked duo of Chris Lam and Rick Ruso posted a 8-3 victory on the first court. Santa Clara would go on to sweep the doubles matches, winning the number-2 and number-3 matches 8-3, as well.
The Gaels lost five of six singles matches, with the only win vomint at number-2. Junior Thomas Burgemeister was the only bright spot, winning his match in straight sets 7-5 and 6-2. All the singles matches were decided in straight sets.
Saint Mary's will return to the court on Saturday, March 9 when the Gaels host Nevada at 11:00 a.m. at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
