
Football Ends Season With 35-15 Loss to Weber State

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's football team concluded their 2003 season with a 35-15 loss to the Weber State Wildcats on Saturday at Saint Mary's Stadium in front of 1,174 fans. The game also concluded the career's of 17 Gael seniors. With the loss Saint Mary's ends the season with a 1-11 record.
The Gaels fell behind early to the Wildcats, giving up 14 unanswered points, before senior Chris Harrell scored from three yards out. Harrell, playing in his final game, rushed for a career-high118 yards, including the Gaels' first touchdown.
Saint Mary's second touchdown of the game came in the fourth quarter when senior Dre Coleman caught a Cordell Webb pass and took it 18 yards for the score. Coleman, in his final game, recorded a game-high 74 yards receiving on a game-high six catches.
The Gaels also managed to get senior wide receiver/quarterback Stephen Ratliff into the game on the first play from scrimmage. Ratliff, who is nursing an ankle injury, took the game's first snap and handed the ball off to Harrell.
Another senior making his final appearance was punter Ben Antongiovanni. Antongiovanni set a new single-season record in a Gael uniform with 3,028 punting yards, breaking Tony Molino's record of 2,860 in 1984. Antongiovanni also finished the season with 78 punts in his career, with a career average of 38.8 per punt.
Weber State broke a 0-0 tie with 43 seconds remaining in the first quarter when Nick Chournos scored on a two-yard run. The Wildcats second touchdown came on a Ryan Nath 34-yard reception from quarterback Tate Bennett to start the second quarter and their final touchdown of the first half came on a Justin DeFour reception from Bennett.
In the second half, the Wildcats added two more touchdowns. The first came on a Chournos 20-yard run and the second came on a Scott Dillard three-yard run.
