Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's men's tennis team dropped to 2-3 on the season when they fell to Cal Poly on Sunday by the score of 5-2. The Gaels dropped all three doubles matches and were only able to take two of the singles matches away from the Mustangs.
In singles action, Saint Mary's earned their victories at the No.3 and No. 4 positions. At the No. 3 position, Saint Mary's Andre Sion captured the match when he beat Nick Tracy in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Saint Mary's Vincent LeBorgne had a little tougher time than Sion at the No. 4 position. LeBorgne's match against Brett Van Linge went into the third set tie-breaker, but LeBorgne was able to prevail 4-6, 6-4, (10-8).
In doubles action, the Gaels were unable to capture a match against the Mustangs. The Saint Mary's duo of Adam Fauvre and Rafael Lopez fell to the Mustangs' John Nguyen and Van Linge by the score of 8-2. The Gaels' pair of Martin Marechal and Sion played a close match but fell to Matt Baca and Tracy 9-7. At the No. 3 doubles, LeBorgne and Dino Paul Ferrari also played in a close match but fell to Brian Kent and Davey Jones 8-6.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Tuesday, February 17 when they face off against Bay Area rival University of San Francisco at the Korth Tennis Complex at 3:00 PM.
