Moraga, CA- For the first time this season Saint Mary's freshman Andre Sion played at the #1 singles position and he responded by coming back from one set down to seal a 4-3 victory over visiting Sacramento State University. For the second straight match the Gaels were edged in the doubles point but were able to rally back. The win marks Saint Mary's third straight victory and puts the Gaels over the .500 mark at a 7-6 overall record.

In singles action, Saint Mary's was able to win four of the six matches. At the #1 position, Sion dropped the first set 2-6, but rallied off two straight sets to beat the Hornet's Joakim Rydberg 6-4, 6-3. At the #3 position, Saint Mary's Martin Marechal defeated Matthew Jones 6-2, 6-2. At the #4 position the Gaels' Vincent LeBorgne beat the Hornets' Ramon Perez by a score of 6-2, 6-1. At the #5 position, Adam Fauvre earned his ninth singles victory on the season by defeating Warwick Foy by a score of 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

The two singles losses for the Gaels came at the #2 and #6 positions. At the #2 position, senior Rafael Lopez fell to Sacramento State's Nick Sheehan 6-4, 6-1 while J.J. Whitlinger dropped his match at the #6 position to Peter Farkas 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles action, Saint Mary's could only muster one win on the afternoon. The lone win came at the #2 position where Marechal and Sion combined to beat Farkas and Jones by a score of 8-4.

In a marathon match at the #3 position the Saint Mary's duo of Lopez and Fauvre were edged by Perez and Foy 9-8 (16-14). At the #1 doubles position, LeBorgne and Whitlinger fell to the Hornets' Sheehan and Rydberg 8-5.

Saint Mary's (7-6) returns to action on Monday, March 22 when it hosts Air Force at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex at 3:00 PM.
