Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Santa Clara on Monday afternoon at the Korth Tennis Complex. The Gaels' loss snaps their three-match winning streak.
Saint Mary's won two singles matches, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Broncos. With the loss the Gaels fall to 4-5 on the year.
In singles action, freshmen Achim Christner and Alp Ozpinar each won in straight sets to give the Gaels two points. Christner beat A.J. Kerin 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 and Ozpinar beat Blane Shields 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles action the team of Adam Fauvre and Tim Welty won their match 9-8 (8-6) for the Gaels' lone doubles victory.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Wednesday, March 15 when they host Minnesota at 3 p.m. at the Korth Tennis Complex.
