San Francisco, CA - Both the Saint Mary's men's and women's cross country teams crossed the Bay Bridge to compete in the San Francisco State Gator Invitational on Saturday at Golden Gate Park. The women's team posted a ninth place finish, while the men's squad crossed the line in seventh place.
For the women, Karrie Hagedorn posted the fastest time for the Gaels and finished in the top-10 with a time of 23:02 in the 6k-race. Hagedorn, who finished 10th out of 106 runners, finished 27 seconds of the pace of USF's Michelle Born, who posted a time of 22:25 for the women's champion.
Tess Grannemann finished in 17th place overall with a time of 23:35, bringing home 17 points for the Gaels. The next finisher for SMC was Maddie Dengler, who finished 58th overall with a time of 25:38. Jade Lewis (26:17) was 73rd overall, Rosie Kovacic (27:33) was 90th, Alex Bettencout (28:02) was 94th, and Sara Nownes (28:24) rounded out the top finishers for the Gaels in 97th place. Abby Harris finished 13 second behind Nownes for 98th overall.
On the men's side, Saint Mary's top finisher was David Stiles with a time of 28:08 in the 8k-race. Stiles finished 52nd overall, bringing home 36 points for SMC. Mark Blucher finished seven spots behind Stiles with a time of 28:43. In the 83-person field for the men, Daniel Reyes (29:42) came in 71st, Eric Villegas (29:47) was 74th, and Bradley Alban (30:48) was 77th overall.
The men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action on next Saturday at the Santa Clara Invitational at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, CA.
