No. 62 Gaels Beat the Zags

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team ended a four game skid this morning when they faced off against conference opponent Gonzaga. The Gaels won this morning's match by a score of 5-2.

After yesterday's thrilling loss the Gaels came back ready to play today. Alp Ozpinar and Adam Fauvre caught fire at the end of their match en route to winning 8-3. Ozpinar and Fauvre improved to 2-1 in doubles conference play. Joel Kusnierz and Achim Christner also defeated their opposition by a score of 8-3, giving the Gaels the 1-0 lead in today's competition.

Several Gaels participated in today's speedy victory. All Gael victories in singles came in two sets. Joel Kusnierz blew by Bryce Cooper 6-2, 6-1. Senior Andre Sion followed suit, winning his match 6-3, 6-4. Sion improved to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play with today's singles win. Adam Fauvre won his match 6-2, 7-5. He improved his singles record to 4-3 as he has won back-to-back matches. Achim Christner recorded his first singles win of the season as in an impressive fashion; winning 6-1, 6-2.

The Gaels will take Sunday off before returning to conference action on Monday when they will face off with Bay-Area rival San Francisco. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. from the Korth Tennis Complex
