Malibu, CA - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team dropped today's match against conference rival Pepperdine. Pepperdine entered the match with a No. 9 national ranking. Andre Sion remained undefeated in singles play, improving to 4-0 on the season.
The Gaels earned their first national ranking in program history earlier this week. This weekend they put up a strong fight, but fell to No. 9 Pepperdine. Today's match marked the third straight ranked opponent the Gaels have played. Saint Mary's has gone 1-2 over that stretch.
Joel Kusnierz fell to Andre Begemann 7-6, 6-2. Begemann entered the competion with a national ranking of No. 33. Achim Christner, Andrea Zannoni and Alp Ozpinar all lost in two sets. Adam Fauvre dropped his first set; came back to win the second set 6-3 but ended up dropping the match in the third set.
Andre Sion has been unstoppable for the Gaels so far the season. The senior improved to 4-0 in singles play, after rolling through Pepperdine's Richard Johnson 6-2, 6-3.
