Gael Drop Tough Match to Portland

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team dropped a tough match to Portland University today at the Korth Tennis complex. The Gaels had won their previous four competitions but dropped today's by a score of 4-3.

Portland swept the doubles matches today en route to winning the doubles point and taking the 1-0 lead. The Gaels were close, losing one doubles match 8-5, another 8-6 and the third in a tie-breaker 8-7 (8-6).

Joel Kusnierz got the Gaels on the board winning his match 6-4, 6-2. Kusinerz has won five straight singles matches. Andre Sion dropped his match 6-4, 6-1. Andrea Zannoni won his second straight singles match today 6-4, 6-4.

Alp Ozpinar dropped his match in two sets, 7-5, 6-4. Yury Platonov dropped his first set in a thriller that went into a tie-breaker 6-7 (8-6). Platonov responded by winning the next two sets 6-0, 6-0 to take the match and tie the competition up at 3-3.

Adam Fauvre won his first set by a score of 2-6. He dropped the second set by a close score of 7-5. The third and final set was for the match and the game went into a tie-breaker. Unfortunately of the Gaels they ended up on the wrong side of the tie-breaker and dropped the third set 7-6 (7-3). This gave Portland the victory with a final score of 4-3.

The Gaels return to action tomorrow when they face Santa Clara University at Noon from the Korth Tennis Complex.
