Bakersfield, CA - The Saint Mary's softball team finished the weekend with a 3-2 win over the CS Bakersfield Roadrunners, as they improved to 6-10 on the season. The Gaels were led by Bronwyn Russell and Lauren Clark, as they each recorded three hits and one run. As a team Saint Mary's totaled nine hits, three runs, two stolen bases, with only one error.
The Gaels did not waste any time on offense, as both of their lead off hitters crossed home plate in the first inning. Russell was the first to get on base, as she singled to the right center on the third pitch of the ball game. Molly Bergeson then reached first off of a bunt, as Russell advanced to second. With Jenna Smith at the plate, Russell and Bergeson stole third and second respectively, while reaching home on a throwing error by the leftfielder. Saint Mary's last run of the game was scored in the top of the second, as Lauren Clark advanced home of a Russell single to the left line.
Once again Maryanne Cronin provided consistent pitching for the Gaels, giving up only nine hits and two runs in seven innings pitched.
The Gaels return to action next weekend, as they host the Saint Mary's Invitational from March 14-16.
