Women's Lacrosse Ends East Coast Road Trip With Lost To Duquesne

Pittsburgh, PA - Ashley Wood led nine different Duquesne goal scorers with six goals as the Dukes defeated Saint Mary's 21-3, in women's lacrosse action on Friday afternoon. Saint Mary's got individual goals by Juliet Munroe, P.J. Hainley and Amy Daniels in the match.
Freshman Alicia Krause started the Duquesne scoring with the first goal of the game at 28:13. During the next two minutes, Cailin Colegrove and Shannon Hadaway had back to back goals to make the score 3-0 Dukes. Juliet Munroe fought back for the Gaels with a goal on a free position shot at 25:53.
Wood then scored two unanswered goals within thirty seconds. The first goal scored at 25:31 assisted by Meghan Frederick and then another goal at 25:13 assisted by Katie Rekart. P.J. Hainley ended the 3-0 Duquesne scoring run with a goal at 19:45. The Gaels did not score again until six minutes into the second half.
The Dukes took advantage of the eleven turnovers made by the Gaels in the first half, while goals poured in for Frederick, Hadaway, Wood, Janna Faulkner and Colegrove. These five Dukes combined for nine points in the last eighteen minutes of the first period. At the half, Duquesne led 15-2 over Saint Mary's.
The Dukes continued to play strong defense in the second half to hold the Gaels to only one goal by St. Mary's Amy Daniels at 24:18. Sarah Carson then took to the field with a goal at 19:26 assisted by Frederick who had a game-high three assists for the Dukes. Faulkner sealed the deal with a free position shot at 1:50 remaining in the contest.
Saint Mary's will return to action on Thursday, April 16 with a 7 p.m. game at UC Davis.
