Moraga, CA - First year cross country head coach, Marty Kinsey, is pleased to announce the addition of six scholar athletes for the 2010 cross country season. Coming in for the men are freshman Chris Garcia from Serra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Joining him are Dylan Donohoe from Lyons High School in Lyons, CO and Marco Siragusa from Sacramento Country Day in Sacramento, Ca. On the women's side the Gaels are adding Alex Choy from Saint Mary's College High School in Berkeley, CA, Maureen May from Saint Frances High School in Elk Grove, CA and Alicia Doohan from Gonzaga Prep in Spokane, WA.
Kinsey has high expectations for this talented group which should immediately help the Gaels in their climb to the top of the West Coast Conference. "I am very pleased that we were able to recruit some talented athletes in our short recruiting season," said Kinsey. "These six athletes embody the spirit of our mission at Saint Mary's as well as posses a hunger to improve at their sport. Our goal is to build a program that can compete highly with the WCC. Recruiting is at the forefront of that battle, and I believe with the short time we had this off season to recruit, we secured some great additions to our teams."
Head Coach Marty Kinsey on Dylan Donohoe: "Dylan has done a solid job training and competing in altitude during his high school career. He peaks at the right time and for that he has been successful. We hope this tradition will continue at Saint Mary's"
Head Coach Marty Kinsey on Marco Siragusa: "Marco is a very hard worker who has already made significant gains during his summer training. He seems to have jumped a level or two as his desire and dedication to run in college seems to have propelled him forward. We look to add more people with such a good attitude and hunger to improve."
Head Coach Marty Kinsey on Chris Garcia: "Chris has been a very fortunate recruit for Saint Mary's. He has only one full year of distance running under his belt, yet has been able to run 10:00 flat in the 3200 meter race. He improves exponentially at this point in his career and we look forward to his continued success."
On the women's side the Gaels are adding Alex Choy from Saint Mary's College High School in Berkeley, CA, Maureen May from Saint Frances High School in Elk Grove, CA and Alicia Doohan from Gonzaga Prep in Spokane, WA.
Head Coach Marty Kinsey on Alex Choy: "Alex was sidelined by injury for a good amount of time during her high school career. Before her injury she was able to run a cross country 5k in 19:06. Now she is fully healthy, improving each day, and looks forward to getting back to her prime running shape. I am excited to see her progress continue."
Head Coach Marty Kinsey on Maureen May: "Maureen was off our radar at first as she didn't compete in track her senior year. She was able to run mid 19's in Cross Country and has now decided to test the waters of collegiate running. Maureen will walk on with the hopes of landing a top-seven spot."
Head Coach Marty Kinsey on Alicia Doohan: "Alicia is a special talent. She had been haunted with running the same 1600 time for a couple years in a row. She decided enough was enough, trained very hard, and set a new personal best by improving by five seconds in her final race. This drive and talent will be a great addition to our program."
These six athletes will make their Saint Mary's debut when the Gaels travel to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, CA participating in the San Francisco Cross Country Invitational hosted by USF on September 4.
