AS A SENIOR (2016-17)
Cross Country: Did not compete in any races due to injury.
AS A JUNIOR (2015-16)
Track: Competed in both the 5,000m and 10,000m for the Gaels … Finished in 15:47.55 for a new personal record in the 5,000m at the West Coast Last Chance Meet on May 13 … Finished the 10,000m at the East Bay Invite on April 15 in 33:32.36.
Cross Country: Finished the 8-kilometer San Francisco Invitational in 27 minutes, 43.3 seconds to set a season best for this distance.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2014-15)
Track: Only ran one race in track due to injury.
Cross Country: Saw improvement in training throughout the XC season … Ran a personal best of 26:59.2 at the Bronco XC Invitational.
AS A FRESHMAN (2011-2014)
Track: Was on mission in Japan from spring 2012 through fall 2013 … In spring 2014, ran only a couple of races, focusing on rebuilding training … Raced a 1500m at the Chabot/CSU Eastbay Legacy Invitational and 5000m at the Chico State Distance Carnival.
Cross Country: Solid first season saw performances improve as he learned the 8 km distance … Best race of the season came at SF State's Gator Invitational (71st place - 27:25) … Finished as eighth man at WCC Championships.
PRIOR TO SAINT MARY'S: Joined Saint Mary's from Sunset High School in Portland, Ore. … Lettered three years in cross country and two years in track & field … Oregon state qualifier for cross country his sophomore and senior years … Earned Second-Team All-Metro his sophomore cross country season and First-Team All- Metro senior year … Finished 13th overall at Oregon state meet senior year to gain Second-Team All-State … Participated in annual Washington v. Oregon BorderClash … High school bests included 4:15 (1500m), 9:08 (3000m), and 15:41 (5K XC).
PERSONAL: Newsom fell in love with Saint Mary's campus on the first visit and knew it was the right place for him … Once his time is at Saint Mary's he would love to become an entrepreneur with his close friend … spent two years in Japan as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
