SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Vicki Shimkus of the Saint Mary's women's soccer team has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week. Shimkus was also named Saint Mary's Student-Athlete of the Week as well.
Shimkus scored two goals in Saint Mary's WCC opener on Sunday. In SMC's only match of the week, Shimkus was the most outstanding player of the match for the Gaels. Shimkus scored her first goal in the 67th minute on a short range shot.
After Gonzaga made an improbable comeback down two goals with just 90 seconds to play, Shimkus was not done. Up 2-0, the Bulldogs scored at the 88:45 mark and 89:34 mark to send the match into overtime.
In the second overtime in the 110th minute, just 45 seconds left, Shimkus dribbled down field and beat the keeper to score the match winner.
