MORAGA, Calif. – The Saint Mary's women's soccer team heads to Stockton on Saturday to take on Pacific at 7:00 p.m. at Knoles Field.
Last week the Gaels battled hard against San Francisco on the road but fell to the Dons 2-0. Saint Mary's continues to feature one of the more prolific scoring offenses in the West Coast Conference, as SMC has scored 22 goals with 28 assists in 16 matches in 2014.
As a team, the Gaels lead the WCC in assists and rank fourth in the conference in points. SMC also ranks third in the WCC in total goals.
Individually, Jessica Castillo and Vicki Shimkus are tied for the WCC lead with seven assists apiece. Samantha Dion is ranked fourth in the WCC with eight total goals.
Pacific enters the match looking for its first WCC point of the year after dropping its opening five WCC contests. The Tigers have only scored one goal in their five conference matches. Last week the Tigers lost at Santa Clara by a 2-0 score.
In non-conference action, the Gaels and Tigers have played two common opponents (Saint Joseph's and California). Pacific lost to Saint Joseph's 4-1 and lost to Cal 3-0. SMC beat Saint Joseph's 4-0 and lost to Cal 4-0.
While roughly just over an hour's drive apart, Saint Mary's and Pacific have not met much over the years, dating back to when the Tigers were a member of the Big West Conference. The last five meetings have been decided by one goal, with the Tigers taking the two most recent meetings 1-0 (2013) and 3-2 (2012). SMC defeated Pacific 1-0 in 2009 (most recent SMC match at Pacific) and 2-1 on a neutral field in 2004.
Pacific has one multi-goal scorer in Taylor Ayers. The Tigers' goalkeeper is Jacqueline Kane with nine starts and a 1.88 goals against average.
