VB | Gaels Face Pacific In Lone Match Of The Week

MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's volleyball team won't have to travel far Saturday when it resumes West Coast Conference play, as the Gaels head to the Central Valley to face Pacific in a Saturday night clash at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
The Gaels (8-10, 3-4 WCC) play their only match of the week against the Tigers at 7 p.m. Saturday. The match will be live streamed on the Gaels' Volleyball "GaelVision" Gameday Central page.
Saint Mary's was swept in both of its road WCC matches last week at nationally ranked opponents. The Gaels fell 3-0 at both No. 13 BYU and No. 5 San Diego. The Gaels still find themselves within two matches of second place in the WCC standings with six teams separated by just two matches from second to seventh place.
ABOUT PACIFIC
The Tigers (10-9, 4-3 WCC) were also swept by USD and BYU last weekend on the road. Before last weekend they had won seven of nine matches including three in a row on two occasions. UOP is 7-4 at home this season, including winning three of its last four at the Spanos Center.
Ashlyn Fleming earned WCC Player of the Week honors for her performance last weekend, as she recorded 31 kills in the two matches, while hitting .574. Fleming is averaging 2.63 kills per set while hitting .360, a percentage that ranks third in the WCC. Fleming also averages a team-leading 1.15 blocks per set, third in the WCC. Lexi Elman leads the Tigers and ranks ninth in the WCC with 3.36 kills per set. Libero Katrin Gotterba leads the WCC in digs, with 4.63 per set.
COMING UP
The Gaels return home next week to host Bay Area rivals San Francisco and Santa Clara. San Francisco visits on Thursday for a 7 p.m. match and Santa Clara comes on Oct. 22 for a 1 p.m. start.
