MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's lacrosse (1-7, 0-3 MPSF) continued to battle hard, but eventually fell to fellow Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival UC Davis (4-5, 1-2 MPSF), 20-6.
The Gaels totaled 13 shots and collected 11 ground balls against the Aggies. SMC was 13-for-19 on clear attempts, as UCD was a perfect 14-for-14 on clear attempts.
Meagan Bennett gave the Gaels the early 1-0 lead after a successful free-position shot at the 28:50 mark. Bennett now has nine goals on the season. Bennett also collected two ground balls, and forced a pair of turnovers.
Emily Mack would go on to score the second goal for SMC to end an Aggies 11-0 run in the first half. Mack scored off a nice feed from Bennett up the field.
Mack would secure her brace just 3:12 left before halftime off another free-position shot for SMC.
Juniors Hanna Dalrymple and Claire Healy would also score goals for the Gaels, as sophomore Anna Marie Carmazzi delivered the last goal of the day with 2:53 left in the game.
First year player Meg Sheehan collected her fourth straight start, and finished the day with a single save. Sydney Pinello played 46 minutes, and recorded six saves.
The Gaels will travel to San Diego State for a 7 p.m. match on Friday, March 24. SMC will be back at home this Sunday, March 26, for a 12 p.m. game against Saint Francis.
