Jake Rudel received his second West Coast Conference Player of the Week nomination today after a two-goal performance against Pacific.
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — For the second time this season, Jake Rudel has been named West Coast Conference Player of the Week after his outstanding performance against Pacific.
In No. 9 Saint Mary's lone match of the week, Rudel made the most of his time on the pitch with two goals in only 34 minutes of action. The junior forward opened the scoring for the Gaels in the 13th minute of action by teeing up a shot from outside the box that curled past the Pacific keeper.
Rudel tacked on his second score of the match just 17 seconds into the second half as the Gaels sprinted into the Pacific half off the whistle and Anders Engebretsen lofted a pass that Rudel got his head on for an easy goal. Saint Mary's went on to win the match with a 4-0 trouncing over the Tigers, who were projected to win the conference this season.
Rudel leads the Gaels with 10 goals and 22 points this season. His goal total is the most by any Gael since 2005 when Michael Clegg scored 11 times and he is six scores away from the all-time single season record of 16 held by Juan Guarda in 1990.
Saint Mary's has now received four WCC Player of the Week nominations through seven weeks with Anders Engebretsen (Week 1) and Remi Prieur (Week 5) also earning the award alongside Rudel.
The Gaels return home this week for a match against San Francisco on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. More information and links to the match can be found on the Gaels' schedule page.
