MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's men's basketball continues to tap into the talented pipeline from down under in Australia, as head coach Randy Bennett announced the signing of Kyle Bowen and Alex Ducas to National Letters of Intent.
"Kyle and Alex are not only terrific on the court but are great young men off the court as well. They are both high character guys that come from great families," Bennett said. "They will fit into our program immediately and we look forward to them joining our program next year."
Alex Ducas
6-6 | Forward/Guard | Centre of Excellence (Australia)
Originally from Geraldton, Western Australia, Ducas has spent time at the NBA Global Academy and the Centre of Excellence in Canberra.
Ducas was selected to participate in the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp at the NBA All-Star Weekend this past February, one of only the top 43 prospects under 18 from 36 countries.
Ducas and Bowen have been teammates growing up in Western Australia for several years, including this past years Under 20 Australian Championships. Ducas averaged 19.5 points per game during the tournament.
"Alex is a great fit for everything that we do at Saint Mary's. He is skilled, a good athlete, and has a great feel for the game," Bennett said. "His shooting ability and size for his position will make an immediate impact in our program."
Kyle Bowen
6-8 | Forward | Centre of Excellence (Australia)
Originally from Perth, Western Australia, Bowen has spent the past year at the Centre of Excellence in Canberra.
Bowen helped lead the Under 18 Australian National Team to a gold medal at the Asia Cup in August, where he averaged 13 points and 10 rebounds per game. At the Under 17 Oceania Championships, Bowen averaged 16 points and 5 rebounds, including a 36-point game in the semifinals of the tournament.
"Kyle's toughness, his knack for scoring and rebounding, and his basketball IQ are things that we loved about him in the recruiting process and those will directly translate to what we do at Saint Mary's," Bennett said. "He will be a good fit on and off the court in our program."
