MORAGA, Calif. — Donning red throwback jerseys, Saint Mary's (9-6) dominated San Jose State (3-9) Saturday night in McKeon Pavilion to finish the non-conference schedule on a high note before starting WCC play in the new year on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Tanner Krebs had one of his best games of the season, leading the Gaels with 20 points while also grabbing five rebounds. The Australian was especially effective from distance, going 6-of-9 from beyond the arc and was responsible for over half of the team's eight treys on the night.

The win represented the eighth time out of eight games where Saint Mary's has defeated their Bay Area rival during Randy Bennett's tenure. The Gaels took down the Spartans by 18 points last season in Moraga.

Saint Mary's defense gave San Jose State fits all night as they held the Spartans to shoot just 32 percent from the field. The Gaels recorded a season-high 14 steals and forced 19 Spartan turnovers in the win. As a result, Saint Mary's finished the game with 14 more shots from the field than SJSU.

Midway through the first half, Saint Mary's jumped out on a run and continued their streak for the rest of the period as SJSU did not record a point for the final 10-plus minutes. The Gaels finished the half on a 25-0 run and shot 53 percent from the field during the opening 20.

Krebs led the Gaels' scoring efforts during the first period with 12 points while knocking down his first three shots of the game, all treys. Jordan Ford and Malik Fitts also put up nine points in the half to aid the offense.

Saint Mary's started the game on a 9-0 run and held the Spartans scoreless for the first three and a half minutes. The Gaels never trailed in the contest and led for over 38 minutes.
