MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's beach volleyball team beat South Bay rival Santa Clara for the second time in as many tries this season, this time sweeping the Broncos, 5-0, Tuesday at Moraga Commons in their first home match of the year.

The Gaels (6-1) swept through each of the top four pairs, with only the No. 5 pairs matchup going three sets. Lindsey Calvin and Kelsey Knudsen got past Santa Clara's (1-5) Anna McCreadie and Erin Reineking with a 15-12 win in the deciding third set. McCreadie and Reineking pulled to within 12-11, but Calvin and Knudsen pulled away, with an ace from Calvin giving the Gaels an early 1-0 victory.

The match decided with the most ease came at No. 2 pairs, where Morgan Hughes and Payton Rund swept the Broncos' Taylor Odom and Gretchen Reinert by scores of 21-10 and 21-9. They led by as much as 17-1 in the second set. Sarah Chase and Mary Hernandez swept the No. 3 pairs with set scores of 21-13 and 21-7 over SCU's Ngozi Nwabuzoh and Tessie Powers. Madi Wilkerson and Sienna Young earned their third sweep victory of the season, winning 21-16 and 21-14 over Michelle Gajdka and Tatiana San Juan.

Saint Mary's travels through The Tunnel on Friday to face East Bay rival California. The Gaels are back home at Moraga Commons on Saturday, playing two matches against Feather River College and San Francisco, with the first match starting at 11 a.m. against the Golden Eagles.
