SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Saint Mary's (10-20) used an extra inning victory to split the final day of the Gaucho Classic at UC Santa Barbara's Campus Diamond Sunday afternoon.
Game 1
Saint Mary's 4, CSU Bakersfield 3 (9)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hailey Sparacino got the Gaels going offensively with her first inning 2-run homer to right center field. The Gaels extended the lead, 3-0, in the third inning as Jaymee Campbell singled to left center.
CSU Bakersfield tied the game, 3-3 in the fifth inning, but SMC clinched the season's 10th victory in the ninth frame. Freshman Julia McCormack came up with the clutch hit to drive in Halle Sullivan for the 4-3 win.
Eryn McCoy pitched seven innings, striking out five batters and allowing just four hits for her third win of the season.. Freshman Eileen Perez pitched two innings and allowed just two hits.
Game 2
Seattle 2, Saint Mary's 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
In a low scoring affair, Seattle used a two-run first inning to get past the Gaels, 2-0.
Seattle used a pair of singles in the first frame to bring home the two runs. SMC recorded four hits in the game.
Senior Katlyn Whitt pitched six innings and allowed just five hits in her 14th start of the season.
