MORAGA, Calif. - In a back and forth match, Saint Mary's (3-14, 0-5 WCC) took visiting BYU (15-5, 4-1 WCC) the distance, but ultimately dropped the close 4-1 decision Thursday afternoon at Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
Down a doubles match, Saint Mary's made an incredible run on courts 1 and 2. New doubles tandem Damon Kesaris and Jacob Lagman broke back to tie the match at 4-4. After exchanging games, the Gaels broke the Cougars serve for the 6-5 lead and served their way to the 7-5 victory.

Eventually going to the tiebreak, Vollenweider and Bot used solid touch at the net and strong baseline play for the 7-6 win to give SMC the 1-0 lead heading into singles action.
The Cougars won the tough match with four singles victories. Kesaris went unfinished on court 1 in the third set and was on serve. Down a set, Chambers Easterling battled back for a 7-6 second set and was all square at 2-2 in the final set.
