MORAGA, Calif. - In a back and forth battle, Saint Mary's men's tennis (4-14, 1-5 WCC) secured its first conference win of the year after coming from behind to defeat Pacific (5-15, 2-5 WCC), 4-3, Saturday afternoon at Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
Matis Bot secured the win for the Gaels in a marathon match on court 4. The second year player showed strong nerves in a second set tiebreak that went 10-8.
The Tigers claimed the hot start and the doubles point after victories on courts 1 and 2. Jackson Hawk and Chambers Easterling anchored the doubles lineup on court 3 as their match went unfinished, 4-3.
Damon Kesaris recorded his 12th win of the season on court 1 with a dominating performance. The second year player cruised his way to the 6-2, 6-1 victory over the Tigers' Ross Watson.
The Tigers claimed the lead back after a singles victory on court 3, but SMC tied things back quickly after Daniel Krutik put on an impressive 6-3, 6-1 victory on court 6. The Gaels would take the 3-2 after Nash Vollenweider's brilliant display in a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 victory for his eighth singles victory of the dual season.
Daniel Krutik used big serves and strong ground strokes for his third singles win of the season on court 6.
Saint Mary's hits the road for the Pacific Northwest next week, as the Gaels will play at Portland on Friday, April 13 and Gonzaga on Saturday, April 14.
