SB | Gaels Fall on Day 2 in Hawai'i

Saint Mary's dropped both halves of their Friday doubleheader at the Hawai'i Paradise Classic.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OAHU, Hawai'i — Saint Mary's dropped two games in the middle day of the Hawai'i Paradise against tough teams in Fresno State and UT Arlington.

Game 1
Fresno State 4, Saint Mary's 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gaels (1-2) scored the first three runs of the game but were undone by four Bulldog runs in the bottom of the fifth to drop the first contest in Friday's doubleheader.

Jaymee Campbell got SMC on the board in the fourth with a single through the right side to drive in Nikki Alexander from second. Alexander's run was already her fourth of the season after scoring three times in the season opener.

In the top of the fifth, Saint Mary's added two more runs beginning with a Dylan Linton double to score Jayda Alaan. In the at bat, the senior Linton saw eight pitches before lacing an RBI shot to the outfield. Two batters late, Hannah Chew chased Linton home with a single into left to give the Gaels a 3-0 advantage.

Unfortunately the score wouldn't hold as the Bulldogs (2-1) tallied four runs on three hits and an error in the bottom of the frame to take the lead and wouldn't relinquish their one-run lead for the rest of the game.

After stealing 39 bags last season, sophomore Kimiko Zapanta swiped her first two of the year as a pinch runner in the third inning.

Game 2
UT Arlington 8, Saint Mary's 0 (6)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mavericks (1-2) scored three in the second, four in the fourth, and one more in the sixth to take the evening contest, 8-0.

Junior Madison Mitchell made her debut for the Gaels by starting in the circle and pitched two innings. Sofia Earle and Eryn McCoy each threw in relief as well for Saint Mary's.

The Gaels' offense managed four hits in the loss. Hannah Chew reached base twice from the three-hole with a single and a walk while Kenedi Lopes also picked up a pinch-hit single. Sophomore Mazzie Davies picked up her first career steal as a Gael in a pinch-running role.

UP NEXT: FINAL DAY
Saint Mary's will play two more talented teams in UCLA and Hawai'i tomorrow on the final day of the tournament. Links to live stats can be found on the Gaels' schedule page.
